Mr Candar welcomed all to the meeting.

International Leather Forum

The President of IULTCS, Mr Folachier stressed that IUR (and also IUT) had been set up with a long term view. Nevertheless he noted that a meeting such as that of the forthcoming IUF in Paris may not happen often and it was important to make the most of it. He also noted that it had been agreed to prepare two documents to be available at this ILF meeting and these were 1) a list of all leather research centres from around the world 2) a survey of research topics which had been investigated in recent years.

Mr Candar said that he would be asking IUR members for assistance in preparing these documents.

Dr Germann offered to prepare a list of research topics discussed in the LGR/Industry Meetings. ACTION Dr Germann

University of Northampton staff agreed to list topics from the IULTCS London Congress. ACTION Prof Covington/Prof Attenburrow

There was discussion about how to get the best from the Research Round Table at the ILF meeting and the relative importance of innovation, ethical, environmental and marketing issues was discussed. The importance of getting the views of marketing managers at ILF was stressed.

IUR Questionnaire

The questionnaire which had been developed by the IUR Commission was presented and discussed in detail. The questionnaire would be sent to regional associations.

Network of Research Institutions

It was stressed that an important aim of IUR was to create a network of training institutions from around the world. It was agreed that University of Northampton staff would assist in drafting a letter of invitation to institutions to join such a network.
