I would like to thank to everybody who contributed and still contributing to the organisation of this international event of IULTCS, which will take ever for the first time in Turkey, in one of the most attractive city of Istanbul.I would like to point out especially the support of sectoral associations as TURDEV (Turkish Leather Foundation), ITKIB (Istanbul Textile & Apparel Exporters' Associations), Ege Ihracatcilar Birligi (Egean Union of Exporters), Corlu Organize Deri Sanayi Bolgesi (Corlu Organised Leather Industry Zone), Tanneries as Yesiller Deri, Gunder and DERIMOD to let us overcoming budgetorial difficulties. I should also cite important persons who gave us their support explaining the importance of such an organisation as Minister of State Kursad Tuzmen, president of IDMIB (Association of Istanbul Leather and Leather Products) Mehmet Buyukeksi, president of TURDEV (Turkish Leather Foundation) Sahin Eroglu, doyen of Turkish leather sector and the founder of DETEK Hasan Yelmen, Prof. Dr. Tuncay Yakali. More other important leaders of the sector denied theirself nothing.
A big interest to the Congress arose from 73 papers submitted. At the end it has been selected 22 very interesting researches for oral presentations, while 37 for visual displays. All these subjects are listed in appropriate web sites as www.detek.org.tr, www.eurocongressistanbul.org and www.iultcs.org.

In the round table discussion at the end of first day a very interesting and important theme will be analysed: “The Role of Europe on the Future of Global Leather Industry ”. We invited important well known experts of the sector to this very attractive and important event and also a sectoral expert from EU.
On the other hand IUE commission will meet on 23d and 24th of May. Issues of this meeting will be presented on 26th May during the congress to the attendance.
IULTCS Executive Committe organised a meeting on 24th May afternoon in Hilton Hotel as well.

Dr. Volkan CANDAR
President of DETEK

We are glad to announce that the II. IULTCS Eurocongress will take place in Istanbul, from 24th to 27th May 2006.

Innovation and New Technologies for the Future of Global Leather Industry

We aim with this event to create a perfect platform to discuss latest European developments covering whole leather technology refering to the entire tanning process, including raw hide, focusing especially to:

  • Innovative technologies for the improvement of the leather quality regarding wet-end and finishing processes.
  • Related analytic technologies
  • Plant machinery and technologies
  • Innovations on the environmental concern
  • Techniques for recovering and using rejects and solid residues

Event aims to create a perfect platform to discuss the latest European developments covering whole leather technology referring to the entire tanning process and its relative improvements. Turkey, as a traditional leather country, will host IULTCS II. Eurocongress in Istanbul, the multicultural city, bridging the west and the east. This second European leather event will take place from May 24th to 27th 2006 with a highly interesting technical- scientific program. The program will offer to the participants an open discussion opportunity for latest innovation in the tanning technology in general, focusing on the theme “Innovation and New Technology for the Future of Global Leather Industry”.
Istanbul, which is one of the most historical cities of the leather world, will frame an enthusiastic environment to investigate all innovative aspects of the global industry to assure a consistent future for tanners’ world and to its relative industries, considering latest development on leather chemistry, tanning processing, improvements on the environmental impacts of the tanning industry, challenging developments on the mechanical engineering offering new opportunities to the leather industry, economical and commercial aspects, all targeting to increase the added value of the leather on one hand and fulfilling end-user’s satisfaction on the other.
Presentations of these works and debates will be the main part of the II. Eurocongress. Papers applied for the event will as usual cover whole leather treatment, concerning all steps of the processing, starting from raw material to the finishing and involving chemical processes, environmental investigations and plant engineering. Abstracts should clearly summarize the aim of the study, describe the methodology of the investigation, point out methods of analysis whenever it was applied and finally give a short interpretation of the results obtained.
As it will be realized during 28th IULTCS World Congress in Florence, it will take place a “Visual Display Session” in the Istanbul II. EUROCONGRESS, where authors will have the opportunity to present visually his poster work within five minutes, at a defined period of each oral session.

Who wishes to propose a communication shall send a wide abstract to the Technical-Scientific Committee by October 30th, 2005, written either in English or Turkish and paged in the way he prefers; the maximum length of the page shall be A4 format.
The Technical-Scientific Committee will use these abstracts exclusively to evaluate and select the works for acceptance and the Committee will communicate to the authors whether the proposal has been accepted or not and the presentation modalities (oral communication or visual display) later on.
The abstracts for assessment must be presented in Turkish or English by 15th October 2005 at the latest and sent by
e-mail to the following address:
