ILTA
Since the very inception (1950) Indian Leather Technologists' Association (ILTA) the Member of IULTCS has a close proximity with Central Leather Research Institute, (CLRI) Chennai a Govt. Institute (the largest research institute on Leather Science and Technology) and College of Leather Technology (CLT), Kolkata (the oldest Institute in Asia) A State Govt. Institute all having the same Architect; Prof B. M. Das, termed as father of Leather Science and Technology in India. Afterwards other academic Institutions joined the array.
With a strong membership base (all voluntary) of over 400, ILTA with full support and cooperation from CLRI and CLT and others is actively involved in the promotion of Research and Development, academic up-gradation and dissemination of leather and related technologies.
During the
Golden Jubilee Celebration of ILTA, regional IULTCS Congress of South and
South East Asian Countries was organised in presence of 400 delegates from
7 countries. Recently
Mr Buddhadeb Chattopadhyay has been nominated by ILTA as South Asia Representative
to persuade other countries of this region to get enrolled under IULTCS. Since
1956, ILTA often conducts seminars and symposiums throughout India on different
aspects of Leather Science and Technology. For past few years the Leather
Research Industry Get Together (LERIG), an annual event is organised by CLRI
in Chennai, followed by LERIG in Kolkata and Kanpur on selected befitting
theme where ILTA acts as collaborator.
India is the member of the MODEUROP CLUB and as a successful member CLRI takes lead role.
Since 1952 ILTA publishes monthly Journal regularly named JILTA. For the benefit of students ILTA published some books. The Association is on the verge of publishing "Comprehensive Footwear Technology" and working jointly with CLRI towards publication of "Treatise on Leather Science and Technology" based on contributions from 31 selected experts throughout the world.
The members
of ILTA in CLRI, CLT; other Institutions and business organizations, and in
other
Countries are the important contributors in the publication of JALCA, JSLTC
etc.
In Kolkata and Chennai every year memorial lectures in the memory of Prof B M Das, Dr Y. Nayudamma and recently in the memory of Sanjoy Sen are organised and delivered by luminaries of Science and Technology.
South Asian members from ILTA and CLRI and BIS (Bureau of Indian Standard) participate in IULTCS Congress regularly and represent IUP/IUC/IUE/IUF Committees. Dr Rajamani from CLRI has been elected as the Chairman of IUE.
ILTA is privileged to have members like Dr Y. Nayudamma, Mr A. Nagappan, Dr
T. Ramasami who were awarded the National Civilian Honour from the Govt. of
India for their contribution to Leather Sector.
Apart from this ILTA undertakes a lot of activities in the discipline of leather
at national level too.
Awarding the top ranker technologists at under graduate and post graduate level, conducting Leather Exposition (LEXPO) fairs for creating dent to small scale leather manufacturers and creating awareness among common people about leather and related articles. Collaborate with international fair for technological inputs are a few to quote.
The Executive
body of ILTA is formed by democratic voting system biennially. It recently
completed installation of G + 5 storied building to our credit.
